Top Tips to support your health & well-being as we come into Autumn.

As the summer of 2022 comes to an end, we begin to say hello to colder days, darker nights and a cosier time of year.

As these changes creep in, it becomes pretty clear that a change of season is upon us, and some may say this change is not for the better. Some of you may find that losing day light and having to deal with miserable weather can have a negative effect on your health & well-being.

However, this doesn’t mean you have to sit back, be unhappy and suffer through this time of year. As much as I want you to acknowledge your emotions, I also want you to follow these simple steps below to help you have a positive autumn/ winter and generally feel a little better within yourself.

How to support your health & well-being as we come into Autumn:

  • Cook healthy meals with in season food, such as autumnal stews & healthy soups

  • Look after your skin, the harsh weather can have an effect on your skin, so make sure to be using moisturiser

  • Stay active, don’t let the cold weather hold you back! Get your boots on and take a walk & clear you mind

  • Take a Vitamin D supplement, receiving vitamin D not only is good for your health but can also have a positive effect on your mood

  • Read a book or binge a series, get comfy and quiet and dive into to a new world, even if it’s just for 30 minutes

  • Journal & show gratitude, being grateful for what you have will always lift your mood

  • Be kind to yourself, allow yourself to take things slow if you need! Like I said, acknowledge your feelings, go easy on yourself and take a break if you want to

  • Celebrate each holiday, whether it be Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas, etc, take this time to celebrate with friends & family and make some wonderful memories

  • Take regular breaks throughout the day, with it being dark on your way to work and dark again on your way home, it is easy to feel like your days are cut short! So move about, go see a bit of daylight & remember the world is still out there

  • Wash your hands regularly, this time of year always brings more regular illnesses, so keep your hygiene a priority

  • Drink plenty of water, as always … in between the hot pumpkin spice lattes and cups of tea, don’t forget to still get your daily dose of H20

  • Cosy up with fluffy socks, a warm blanket & light the fire (or a candle), even writing this put a smile on my face! Try and find happiness with the small things and embrace the moment.

It’s funny how each season can make us feel differently. We all have our favourites I’m sure, but the key is to not let these changes have a negative effect on your health and well-being.

What is your favourite season?

I think Autumn is beautiful because of the; cool crisp walks, fashion, pumpkin flavoured everything, colours of the leaves, return of favourite sports and beginning of the holiday celebrations. There are many things to enjoy and lots of opportunity to support your health and well-being as we come into autumn.
