Top Tips on how to create a morning routine to maximise the summertime, light mornings and weather to create a habit by winter
It’s officially summertime….my favourite time of the year!
I have just returned from a beautiful family trip to Puglia in Italy. We were blessed with blue sky and sunshine for the week with temperatures hitting 37 degrees – luckily we had a villa with a pool which was used regularly.
This time of year is a great opportunity to start creating changes and routines to your daily life which will then become a habit by winter.
The energy of summer makes it an ideal time for new beginnings, especially those requiring consistency. The warmer weather, longer days and following on from Spring, we are awakening and in bloom.
The summer solstice signals a change of season and reminds us we have reached the midpoint of the year. It’s a chance to refocus and with the energy of fire, this is a season for tending to things and nurturing them. Perfectly aligned with the energy needed to create changes and routines.
During summertime, we often have lighter workloads and due to the sun and higher levels of vitamin D, most of us are in better moods.
So, many of you might be asking, how do I build a habit?
A habit on average takes 21 days to create or break and around 66 days for that new behaviour to become automatic.
To begin with, identify your goals and habits you want to create.
To really get behind this, know your WHY?
Why do you want to create this habit or routine?
Why is this important?
Some follow-on questions to ask yourself:
Where am I now and where do I want to be?
What have you wanted but are afraid to try?
How will you feel if you don’t make a change?
How will it benefit you?
What do you want to have achieved by the end of the year?
What does your dream day look like?
With any goal, the importance is to make them manageable and being consistent.
Here are some examples of healthy habits to create this summer:
- Drink more water
- Get up earlier and enjoy the sunshine
- Daily meditation
- Move your body more – walking, cycling, open water swimming etc.
- Nourishment – eating more fruits and vegetables
- Get outdoors more – even for your coffee or breakfast
- Reconnecting to friends or family and prioritising your social life
